Apple is apparently working on a device similar to the Echo, featuring Siri and AirPlay, running iOS

Apple is reportedly in the final stages of finalizing designs for the Amazon Echo competitor that everyone has been talking about for what seems like forever.

The information comes from Sonny Dickson, a famous leaker when it comes to all-things Apple. In a message on Twitter, he says that the product is "expected to be marketed as a Siri/AirPlay device."

Dickson added that it is believed the Echo competitor will carry some form of Beats technology and is expected to run an iOS variant.

Of course, none of these details are really that surprising considering Apple has owned Beats for a few years now, so making use of some of its technology for what is essentially a smart assistant in a smart speaker is expected.

Dickson did not go into any more details on this product, but he's been right in the past, as Apple Insider points out, including on the revamped lockscreen interface for iOS 10.

His claims though, are not exactly in line with what some unnamed executives at Apple said back in February when they claimed the company had no apparent interest in developing an Echo competitor.

Bring on Siri and AirPlay

Such a device would see Siri competing against the voice assistants of other major companies, including Google's on Google Home, and Amazon's Alexa on Echo, in yet another field.

Nonetheless, both Echo and the Google Home devices have proven to be quite successful and their adoption rate will only grow as the devices are taken to other markets as well.

AirPlay support for this alleged device indicates users will be able to push music, radio, and podcasts to it via Wi-Fi. This should indicate a much speedier connection than what other devices using Bluetooth technology have to offer.

Whether any of this proves to be true remains to be seen, but we're counting on Dickson's high rate in nailing such predictions thus far.
