Speculation about Apple’s next-generation iPhone grows

The next-generation iPhone is expected to launch sometime in the fall (or even in the summer, according to some less-likely rumors), but we already have the very first unofficial details pointing to the features that Apple is aiming for on the device.

A recent report coming from Business Korea, however, hints at a completely different approach for the iPhone 7, as sources close to the matter claim that the device might actually be launched with a ceramic back rather than metal.

While that sounds like a pretty big change for the iPhone lineup, going for such a dramatic “upgrade” is less likely, especially because the new model is expected to be very similar to the current one.

Super AMOLED screen sooner than expected?

A rendering published by the same source and envisioning this ceramic-made iPhone points to some other less-likely features, including a Super AMOLED screen. Sources say that the iPhone won’t make the switch to a Super AMOLED screen until 2018 at the earliest, so the iPhone 8 is the first one that could come with such a screen.

In other words, the next generation will almost certainly come with an IPS LCD, just like the existing one.

At the same time, the same rendering suggests that Apple could go for an A10 processor, which is very likely to happen, but also to integrate a new 3D Touch system, an updated camera, feature quick charge, and remove the 3.5mm headphone jack in favor of a Lightning port.

And last but not least, this concept claims that the iPhone 7 could be waterproof, so in case you want to take a shower with your phone next to the soap, this might be the first version to allow you to.

Keep in mind, however, that this is just a rumor for the time being, so unless Apple confirms it before the fall launch, take it with a healthy pinch of salt.
