Linux kernels 4.3 and 4.2 are available in the repos

The developers of the ROSA Desktop Fresh operating system have announced today, January 26, the release and immediate availability for download of the ROSA Desktop Fresh KDE R7 Linux operating system.

Being based on the long-term supported ROSA 2014.1 platform, which will receive security fixes and patches until autumn 2016, ROSA Desktop Fresh KDE R7 updates the default set of KDE4 applications with the addition of the Kamoso and Kup applications. At the same time, it removes the KWallet utility, and support for H.265 encoded videos is now available for new installations, along with numerous other multimedia codecs.

Under the hood, ROSA Desktop Fresh KDE R7 is powered by Linux kernel 4.1.15 LTS, but users will be able to upgrade it to a kernel from either the Linux 4.2.x or 4.3.x series from the default software repositories of the distribution. The entire graphics stack has been refreshed as well in this release, and it now includes the X.Org Server 1.17.4 display server and Mesa 3D Graphics Library 11.0.6.

As always, the distro presents a vast collection of games and emulators and the Steam platform package along with standard suite of audio and video communications software including the newest version of Skype," reads today's announcement.

Updated applications, lots of bugfixes

Numerous applications and drivers have been updated in ROSA Desktop Fresh KDE R7 as well. Among some of the most important ones, we can mention PulseAudio 7.1, Chromium 47.0, Mozilla Firefox 43.0.4, Mozilla Thunderbird 38.3, LibreOffice 4.4.7, FFMpeg 2.8.5, GStreamer 1.6.2, GTK+ 3.16.7, KDE Frameworks 5.18.0, Qt 5.5.1, Nvidia 358.16, 352.63, 340.96, and 304.131, as well as AMD Catalyst 15.9.

Lastly, there are numerous bugfixes and minor improvements in today's ROSA Desktop Fresh KDE R7 release, and among some of the most relevant ones, we can mention better support for installing the OS from USB3 drivers, better support for Intel and AMD Radeon graphics cards, and better support for ThinkPad USB keyboards.
