It's been almost five months since Rockstor 3.8 open-source and free Linux-based NAS (Network-Attached Storage) operating system received an update, and project developer Suman Chakravartula informed us about the release of Rockstor 3.8-15.

Rockstor 3.8-15 appears to be a substantial update that closes a total of 43 issues reported by users since Rockstor version 3.8-14 was announced on the 20th of June 2016, and it also looks like it's the 30th release of the GNU/Linux distribution that uses Btrfs as default file system.

"I am thrilled to announce the release of Rockstor 3.8-15. It’s been a long release cycle and It’s our 30th release, woohoo! We have entered a new phase of Rockstor community growth with steady patches from dedicated contributors," said Suman Chakravartula in the release announcement.

UI enhancements, backend disk management refactoring

Among the biggest improvements implemented in Rockstor 3.8-15, we can mention multiple enhancements to the web-based user interface, in particular the dashboard, major refactoring of the backend disk management, including the design, as well as numerous other under-the-hood improvements, bug fixes, and updated components.

An RAID56 warning was implemented, long nutanix device names are now supported, Docker journald logging support is now integrated, test e-mail notification and the NVM Express (NVMe) compatibility for the system disk have been improved, and a Samba regression has been addressed.
