S.M.A.R.T. and Rock-Ons have also received improvements

Suman Chakravartula was happy to inform Softpedia about the release and immediate availability for download of the Rockstor 3.8-12 free and open-source NAS (Network Attached Storage) solution based on GNU/Linux technologies.

Rockstor 3.8-12 is the project's fourth maintenance release for the current stable branch, and it promises to improve a significant amount of components and features, among which we can mention Active Directory integration, S.M.A.R.T., as well as Rock-Ons.

The Rockstor developers have explained to us that the development cycle for the Rockstor 3.8-12 release was a little bit different, and they received a lot of contributions from the community, which means that they managed to close a total of 26 issues, as well as to add a bunch of under-the-hood improvements.

Existing subscribers on the other hand, can update easily from the Web-UI," said Suman Chakravartula in the release announcement. "3.8-12 release cycle was very different compared to the ones before."

What's new in Rockstor 3.8-12

Highlights of the Rockstor 3.8-12 release include the addition of S.M.A.R.T. support to more drive types, support for hostname configuration, improvements to the Rock-On app profile updates and restart policy, better Active Directory integration via winbind, along with Active Directory join improvements, and group creation fixes.

Furthermore, things like tooltip design, Share size reporting, Share deletion UX and warnings, as well as bulk Snapshot deletion UX have been improved, BIOS RAID is now better supported on the system disk, there's support for force removal of Shares and custom port in e-mail alerts setup, and improvements to the design of the Services view.

Last but not least, the Pool creation user interface has been redesigned to support a large number of drives, there's now support for dynamic root Pool name retrieval, handling of disk information from system disks has been improved as well, the rockstor-pre service was made more robust, and MD RAID root disk setup is now supported.
