The developers of the Robolinux GNU/Linux distribution have announced today, January 18, 2017, the release and immediate availability of a new stable update based on the latest Debian GNU/Linux 8 "Jessie" operating system series.

Still offering a free installer, the Robolinux 8.7.1 "Raptor" edition is now available for download with the usual Cinnamon, MATE 3D, Xfce 3D, and LXDE flavors. It's based on the recently released Debian GNU/Linux 8.7.1 "Jessie" operating system, which means that it ships with its newest Linux 3.16 kernel and over 170 bug fixes and security patches. The GRUB bootloader and login screens have been refreshed too.

"This is another major Robolinux upgrade entailing several months of hard work finding every way possible to improve the speed and functionality of our 8 Raptor versions," said the devs. "You will immediately notice that we have changed the GRUB boot splash and login images as the previous versions showed a ball earth which is 100% fake NASA CGI."

Mozilla Firefox 50.0 and Thunderbird 45.6.0 are pre-installed

Pre-installed in the Robolinux 8.7.1 "Raptor" release, you'll find the Mozilla Firefox 50.0 web browser and Mozilla Thunderbird 45.6.0 email and news client, as well as numerous other updated components, including TOR Browser, TorChat, Google Chrome, Google Earth, Skype, BleachBit, Clam AntiVirus, KeePass2, Privoxy, JonDonym, Wireshark, Blender, Pinta, gThumb, OpenShot, Scribus, Kdenlive, and VirtualBox.

The latter allows users to run the Windows XP, Windows 7, and Windows 10 operating systems virus free inside StealthVM virtual machines.
