Robolinux developers are announcing today, June 17, 2016, that the Robolinux 8.5 LTS "Raptor" operating system is now available for download based on the latest Debian GNU/Linux repositories.

But before we tell you what's new in the Robolinux 8.5 LTS release, the developer has a big announcement to make. "All 16 Robolinux 7 & 8 Live versions now come with a free OS installer and can be downloaded, for free, on SourceForge. Please permit me to say it again 'There is no more charge for our OS installer' which was how we funded 3rd party Linux application developers."

So there you have it, you can finally install the Robolinux operating system on your disk drive without being charged. The latest release, Robolinux 8.5 LTS, is part of the "Raptor" series and ships with multiple editions based on various desktop environments, including Cinnamon, MATE, Xfce, and LXDE. Both 64-bit and 32-bit ISOs are available for these editions.

Based on the newest Debian GNU/Linux 8 "Jessie" repos

As its version number suggests, Robolinux 8.5 LTS comes today based on the newest Debian GNU/Linux 8.5 "Jessie" operating system, borrowing many the packages available upstream in the Debian Stable repositories. It ships with Debian GNU/Linux 8's Linux 3.16 kernel, and the Steam for Linux client for those who want to play some nice games on their Linux machine.

The usual Stealth VMs that let users run the Microsoft Windows 7 and 10 operating systems virus-free are present as well in Robolinux 8.5 LTS, based on Oracle's VirtualBox 5.0 virtualization solution. This release also comes with the newest TOR Browser 6.0 for anonymity, as well as Mozilla Firefox 47.0 and Mozilla Thunderbird 45.1.1.

Robolinux is a distribution targeted at new Linux users. The Robolinux 8 "Raptor" LTS series is supported with software updates and security patches until the year 2020, based on the Debian Stable repos. You can download the Robolinux 8.5 LTS Cinnamon and MATE, KDE, Xfce, and LXDE editions right now via our website.
