The developers of the Robolinux project have announced the release and immediate availability of the MATE edition of Robolinux, a spin that promises to use less RAM than the Cinnamon edition introduced a while ago.

Based on the latest Debian GNU/Linux 8 operating system, Robolinux 8.1 LTS MATE Edition is powered by Linux kernel 3.16, which means that it offers improved hardware support and graphics quality, as well as faster startup times. This version is LTS (Long-Term Support) and it will receive security patches and software updates until year 2020.

With built-in support for Intel Haswell chipsets, the MATE flavor of Robolinux 8.1 LTS "Raptor" lets users add custom scripts to the Caja file manager in order to speed up their productivity. The usual one-click Wi-Fi, printer, and video driver installers are present in this edition, along with support for Windows 10 in the built-in Stealth VM.

"The Robolinux "Mate Raptor" user interface is extremely fast, quite beautiful and very easy to use. A tremendous amount of time and effort went into optimizing and tweaking Robolinux "Mate Raptor" v8.1 so that Linux beginners and advanced users will be very pleased," reads the announcement.
