Miley Cyrus caused a huge storm online with her performance with Robin Thicke at the MTV Video Music Awards 2013, but she shouldn’t have been the only one to take the fall for it. Thicke later said that he had no idea that Miley would show up dressed up like that, let alone that she’d twerk on him shamelessly, much to the outrage of the viewers.

As she’s gearing up to return to the VMAs stage, this time to host the 2015 edition, Miley is bringing up the past again to offer some clarifications. For starters, she tells the New York Times, she wasn’t the only one to blame for how the performance turned out because Thicke had been in on it from the beginning.

“It was funny, because I got so much of the heat for it, but that’s just being a woman. He acted like he didn’t know that was going to happen. You were in rehearsals! You knew exactly what was going to happen. And he was actually the one that approved my outfit,” she says.

Miley adds that Robin picked up her outfit because he was going for a look as close as possible to that of the models used in the music video for “Blurred Lines.” Hearing him say later on that he was shocked when she removed one layer of her outfit to reveal latex panties and bra must have stung.
