Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus” came out in the summer of 2012, and though it was welcomed with mixed reviews, it still performed pretty well at the box office. In fact, it performed well enough for it to get a sequel, which Scott said he started working on as early as that same year.

It’s 2015 now and we still don’t have much to go on in terms of progress on “Prometheus 2.” Back in 2012, word in the industry had it that a sequel would drop in 2014 or no later than 2015, which is definitely not happening.

Right now, hopes are high that it will be released in 2017, and Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace are said to be on board to reprise their roles.

In a new interview with Total Film, promoting his latest movie “The Martian,” Scott has revealed that “Prometheus 2” will start shooting in January 2016, which would leave plenty of time for a possible mid-2017 release.

According to SciFied, the sequel would “feature multiple ‘David’ Android units portrayed by Michael Fassbender,” which should come as excellent news for fans of the actor.

Then again, there’s still a long way to go until January 2016 and the lack of anything official on the topic makes progress reports appear as rumors. “Prometheus,” which played out like a sort of prequel to the “Alien” films, wouldn’t be the first relatively successful film of a planned franchise to not get a sequel.

Remember David Fincher’s “Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” for Sony Pictures, which came out in 2001 with Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara? Well, it will never get installments 2 and 3 after all.
