Video game developer and publisher Capcom is announcing that it is planning to expand the range of Resident Evil titles that are offered on the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 by offering access to the fourth, fifth and sixth core installments in the franchise to all those who want to experience them on the new devices.

According to the company, the plan is to offer all the three video games for the price of 19.99 dollars or Euro and the first to arrive will be Resident Evil 6, which is set to launch on March 29 of this year.

Resident Evil 5 will be offered at some point during the summer while Resident Evil 4 should arrive in the fall of the year, with all titles introduced via digital stores on both the Xbox One and the PlayStation 4 and physical editions currently only planned for North America.

The official Capcom Unity announcement states, "Resident Evil 6 is the biggest Resident Evil game to date with not one (Leon S. Kennedy and Helena Harper), not two (Chris Redfield and Piers Nivans), not even three (Jake Muller and Sherry Birkin), but FOUR (Ada Wong and Agent) campaigns that are all interwoven and can be played alone or coop in any order."

The title also has a multiplayer mode that allows players to face off against each other in a variety of modes, and the developers are saying that all the post-launch downloadable content will also be included in the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 edition.

It's unclear whether Capcom also has plans to tweak the gameplay or the graphics in any significant way for Resident Evil 6.

More details about the way Resident Evil 5 and 4 will be ported to the new hardware will be offered closer to their own launch dates.

No extra details are offered on the coming Resident Evil 2 remake

Capcom has already delivered updated takes on the original Resident Evil and on Resident Evil 0 on the home consoles created by Sony and Microsoft, and apparently their reception was good enough to allow the company to bring over the other major releases in the franchise.

A remake of Resident Evil 2 is also expected to arrive soon, but the publisher is not yet willing to offer any new details about it.

The Resident Evil franchise is one of the most celebrated in the history of video games, but many fans are saying that Capcom no longer knows how to push it forward and how to make both the story and the core gameplay mechanics interesting to a new generation of players.

This is why the company is focused on bringing the older titles to a new generation of consoles, making sure that a new group of players are exposed to them and might become part of the community.

In May of this year, Capcom is also planning to launch a new Umbrella Corps title, which is linked to Resident Evil but will use survival and horror mechanics.
