14 DAY TRIAL // HTC is expected to release two Google Nexus smartphones this year, and although their monikers aren't known at this point, the devices go by the codenames Sailfish and Marlin. Some specs of the two handsets have already leaked, and now a new render has surfaced online, revealing the design of the phones.
It's worth knowing that the render isn't actually an image released by HTC or Google, but rather a recreation by Android Police based on a reliable source. As the picture suggests, HTC has decided to integrate a simpler and cleaner design for the upcoming Nexus phones, but some uncertainties on their looks remain.
As such, the image shows that the home button will come in a solid white design, although some rumors suggest that the smartphone could actually have a 4-color “flower” design. In addition, it's quite unclear whether the “G” logo will be placed on the back or it will be missing altogether. The same can be said about the “HTC” logo, but the post implies the manufacturer's logo might not make it on the device's case.
Nexus Sailfish and Marlin could come with an aluminum body
The image shows that the new Nexus smartphones won't be sporting a camera bump, and the back pane could be made out of glass, but plastic is still a possibility. In addition, the rear pane seems to have a gentle curve around the edges, and the phones will come with an aluminum body.
On the front, the handsets will feature the earpiece speaker, front-facing cameras, a small sensor cluster, while antenna lines will be placed on the back, on the bottom and top side. The purpose of the three holes next to the camera is unknown at this point, but they could be for auto-focus and a secondary microphone.
The post reveals that the Nexus smartphones will most likely be advertised in the standard aluminum finish with a white face, but a dark gray / black version should also be made available.
At this point, it's unclear when Google and HTC will release the two new Nexus smartphones, but word is they will see the light of day together with the new version of Android OS, Android Nougat 7.0.
