14 DAY TRIAL // The Android-x86-based Remix OS has arrived and is now ready for download and testing. It’s an Alpha version, so don’t expect it to be stable.
Remix OS was first introduced with a crowdfunding campaign for Remix Mini, a small mini PC. The campaign was successful and it shipped to customers. It’s now even available on various online outlets, including Amazon, and you can buy one almost anywhere in the world.
The thing is that Remix Mini uses the previous version of Remix OS, but the developers have been working on the 2.x branch for quite some time. Now they are ready to launch it, and they release an Alpha version that can be downloaded and installed. They need as many testers as possible in order to improve it.
Remix OS delivers the Android experience
Since Remix OS is based on Android-x86, you might be inclined to believe that they look alike. That’s not the case. Android-x86 has the distinct stock look from Android, but Remix OS is its distribution. If Remix OS devs didn’t say anything, you couldn't tell that it’s based on Android-x86 just from its looks.

They promised to release a working version of the distribution on January 12 and they kept their word, despite the fact that a leaked version was floating around for a couple of days.
The new Alpha version for Remix OS is different from the leaked one and it even worked better. We couldn't get the older one to boot in VirtualBox, but the newer release didn’t mind.
