We live in a world full of “Oops,” there's no doubt about it

Remember the Windows 98 demo when Bill Gates was presenting the state-of-the-art printing capabilities of their new operating system? That was probably the world's most famous “oops” ever, and undoubtedly, it really helped make the Blue Screen of Death a thing to be afraid of for pretty much all Windows users.

But Windows lives on and so does the Blue Screen of Death and because Microsoft's platform is still the most widely-used operating system across the globe, we come across the notorious error pretty often.

So a group of redditors decided to create a new subreddit called Public Blue Screen of Death, which is in essence a community where members can post photos with BSODs they find in public places, such as airports, ATMs, banks, buildings, and billboards (via Ars).

Unsurprisingly, this sub is already pretty successful and not only that it has several hundred photos already but it also has some 2,700 subscribers, with figures very likely to grow as more redditors become aware of its existence.

Steve Ballmer's legacy

Few people know this, but the message that shows up in Blue Screen of Death errors was actually written by none other than Steve Ballmer, the former Microsoft CEO and one of Bill Gates' best friends.

More than 20 years ago when Microsoft was still working on Windows 3.1, Steve Ballmer, chief of the systems division at that time, wasn't really pleased with the error message displayed by the operating system and decided to create his own, which can still be seen on computers across the globe today.

So yes, Steve Ballmer might no longer be working for Microsoft, but his legacy's still there, so now you know whom to blame every time you see a BSOD on your computer monitor.
