Today, October 20, 2016, Red Hat had the pleasure of announcing the release and immediate availability of the Beta builds for its upcoming Software Collections 2.3 and Developer Toolset 6 collections of tools for developers.

Red Hat Software Collections 2.3 Beta includes many updated components, starting with the latest MySQL 5.7 and Redis 3.2 open source databases, as well as Perl 5.24, Python 3.5, Ruby 2.3 and PHP 7.0 open source languages, and continuing with Git 2.9, Thermostat 1.6, and the Java Virtual Machine (JVM) monitoring tool. Additionally, the collection ships with Mongo 3.2 and Eclipse Neon 4.6.1.

"Delivered on a separate lifecycle from Red Hat Enterprise Linux with a more frequent release cadence, Red Hat Software Collections bridges developer agility and production stability by helping to accelerate the creation of modern applications that can then be more confidently deployed into production," reads today's announcement.

Here's what's coming to Red Hat Developer Toolset 6.0

On the other hand, the Beta release of Red Hat Developer Toolset 6.0 comes with the newest GCC (GNU Compiler Collection) 6.2.1 compiler, GDB (GNU Project Debugger) 7.12 open source debugger, as well as an up-to-date toolchain consisting of GNU binutils 2.27, elfutils 0.167, strace 4.12, SystemTap 3.0, Dyninst 9.2.0, and Valgrind 3.12.

Apart from that, Red Hat Developer Toolset 6.0 Beta adds support for both IBM z Systems and Power hardware architectures for the commercial Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system and, for the first time, support for Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server for ARM Developer Preview.

Both Red Hat Software Collections 2.3 Beta and Red Hat Developer Toolset 6.0 Beta are now available to existing customers, as well as partners that have an active Red Hat Enterprise Linux subscription. You can download, install and test drive the tools right now from the Red Hat Customer Portal.
