Today, November 17, Red Hat, Inc., the world's leading provider of open source solutions, has had the great pleasure of announcing the final release and general availability of Red Hat Software Collection 2.1 and Red Hat Developer Toolset 4.

Red Hat Software Collection 2.1 is now the latest and most advanced open source software to provide web development tools, databases, and dynamic languages for the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) series of operating systems, introducing multiple new and updated collections, including the Varnish Cache 4.0.3 caching HTTP reverse proxy, nginx 1.8 web server, node.js 0.10.40 runtime environment for developing server-side apps, and an updated Maven 3.0 suite.

"Additionally, by making many of these collections available as Dockerfiles and docker-formatted container images, we are helping to drive the adoption of next-generation applications within the enterprise, all built on the foundation of Red Hat Enterprise Linux."

Here's what's new in Red Hat Developer Toolset 4

On the other hand, Red Hat Developer Toolset 4's updated components and new additions include GNU Compiler Collection (GCC) 5.2, the GNU Project Debugger (GDB) 7.10, and Eclipse Mars 4.5 IDE (Integrated Development Environment). Also worth mentioning are SystemTap 2.8 open-source tool for dynamically instrumenting running production GNU/Linux operating systems, GNU Binutils 2.25 collection of binary tools, as well as numerous other updated performance tools and toolchain components.

Additionally, Red Hat has managed to release its Red Hat Software Collections also as Dockerfiles and container images designed for the Docker software for developers who work with Linux containers and want to take advantage of their rapid deployment and development cycles. They are available right now for all Red Hat customers from the Red Hat Customer Portal.
