14 DAY TRIAL // Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux knew they had all eyes on them for their big wedding day, so they did their best to avoid media attention: they got married in a backyard ceremony in the middle of the week, disclosing to no one their plans and telling them they were there for a surprise birthday party.
If this new report is accurate, a clue that Aniston was planning the wedding came in April this year, with an episode of Say Yes to the Dress. It offered a first look at the wedding dress she had settled on, a Mark Zunino design retailing for $8,400 (€7,617).
The clues were out there for months
As you can see in the video below, the episode showed one of the brides trying out a dress at Kleinfeld’s: she loves it and she loves how it looks on her, but she can’t afford it.
This is when a fittings specialist for the Manhattan store chimes in, trying to talk her into purchasing it for her big day. Instead of showering her with compliments, she tells her something meant to make her feel more like a star.
“I know the dress really well. I actually picked this for Jen Aniston to wear on her wedding day. In my head this is Jennifer Aniston’s dress,” she says.
The implication is that, at the time the episode was shot, Aniston had already settled on a wedding dress, this sleek creation that the bride is wearing. For some reasons, viewers of the reality show completely missed out on this, so the mention is only making headlines now, a week after the fact (i.e. the secret backyard wedding).
Jennifer and Justin pulled off an impossible feat
Before tying the knot last week, Jennifer and Justin were engaged for 3 years, which is very long for a celebrity couple. In time, this led to speculation that the wedding might never take place, which worked to their advantage when it came to pulling a fast one on the media.
All guests (with some exceptions) and all staff working on the event were told that Jennifer was planning a surprise birthday party for Justin. They bought the lie and the media saw no reason to keep a closer eye on their house because, after all, who gets married in the middle of the week?
The two managed to pull off an almost impossible feat, much like the other highly mediated couple did exactly one year ago, Brad Pitt (Aniston’s ex-husband) and his longtime partner Angelina Jolie.
