The next high-end series of smartphones coming from Samsung will be called “Galaxy X.” It will include the latest innovations the South Korean company can provide in the smartphone industry.

It's not yet clear if these devices will be launched as concept phones or they will be commercially available to everyone, all over the globe. We would bet on limited quantities knowing that Samsung isn't yet ready to mass produce lots of the components that go inside the Galaxy X smartphones.

More importantly, new reports coming from China claim the first Galaxy X smartphones will be launched by Samsung in Q3-Q4.

If accurate, the information comes in line with another new report that suggests the South Korean company plans to launch the Galaxy Note 8 in the second half of the year, probably slightly ahead of the Galaxy X announcement.

According to SamMobile, there will be no less than five Galaxy flagships launched in 2017. It's unclear whether the number includes the Galaxy S8 and Galaxy Note 8, which are already on track for release this year.

Even so, the fact that Samsung plans to launch more than two flagship smartphones this year suggests the South Korean company has already gotten over the Galaxy Note 7 incident.

Among the Galaxy X smartphones to be launched this year, there will be phones with foldable panels, while others will feature displays that support 4K resolution.

All Galaxy X series devices will make use of advanced biometric features for security, including face, palm, and fingers. The foldable panels included in one or more of the Galaxy X phones will feature scrolling functionality and a touch area on the edge of the device.

That's just about everything we know about the Galaxy X smartphones, but if the latest Samsung patents are any indication of what the company has in store for us, its upcoming devices should be mind-blowing, and not just on paper.
