Microsoft has embarked on a journey that’s supposed not only to boost long-term profitability, but also to help the company expand into some new sides of the market where it previously struggled to compete against its rivals, including hardware, so Satya Nadella’s mission at the helm of the software giant is not as easy as some might think.

In an email sent to employees this morning, Nadella explains that Microsoft needs to continue acting as one company that does everything together, adding that remaining obsessed with customers is a priority.

“We will learn about our customers and their businesses with a beginner’s mind and then bring solutions that meet their needs. We will be insatiable in our desire to learn from the outside and bring that knowledge into Microsoft, while still innovating to surprise and delight our users,” Nadella explained in the letter obtained by Geekwire and which you can read in full after the jump.

Reinventing productivity

It’s no secret that in the last 12 months, Microsoft’s tag line was empowering people to do more and Satya continued this trend with his new letter.

Reinventing productivity is one of the company’s main goals, he said, with services and devices to work together for the same purpose.

“We will reinvent productivity services for digital work that span all devices. We will also extend our experience footprint by building more business process experiences, integrated into content authoring and consumption, communication and collaboration tools. We will drive scale and usage by appealing to ‘dual-use’ customers, providing productivity services that enable them to accomplish more at work and in the rest of their life activities with other people,” he said.

Overall, Nadella’s words aren’t exactly new and pretty much the same message was sent several times before with multiple occasions, which is living proof that Satya Nadelela is very confident that this is the new direction that Microsoft should adopt.

One Microsoft, productivity, customer-obsessed approach. These are the things that seem to define the new Microsoft, so with Satya at the helm of the company, it’s all going to be a very interesting adventure.
