No details about the numbers behind the transaction

Nextbit, the company that successfully Kickstarted the innovative Robin smartphone back in 2015, has just announced that it will be joining the Razer family. The announcement took everyone by surprise since Razer isn't known for its smartphone aspirations.

The good news for Nextbit's fans is that the company will now have more resources to spend on their next project, whatever that might be. Concerning their only product, the cloud-oriented Robin, Nextbit assured customers that it would continue to provide support for the smartphone.

The Robin is not available for purchase anymore, and neither are the accessories that go along with the smartphone. However, Nextbit has announced that it will continue to offer warranties for 6 more months starting February.

In addition, the company will continue to provide software updates and security patches for the Robin until February 2018.

More than anything we want to preserve the community we’ve built on our forums and our social streams, we’re really proud of what we’ve accomplished together,” says Nextbit's Tom Moss.

Razer has yet to offer an official statement on the matter, but Nextbit claims the company will continue to operate as an independent division inside Razer, “focused on unique mobile design and experiences.”

Basically, Nextbit won't have to turn to Kickstarter for their next project, as they will now have enough resources to finance the development of their upcoming products.

The recent acquisition is supposed to help Nextbit do what it did until now, “only bigger and better.” Does this mean that we will see a Robin 2 sometime in the coming months?

That's hard to tell, but the important thing is a truly innovative company like Nextbit is now in a better position that will allow it to bring even more wonderful products to the market.

The numbers behind the transaction haven't been revealed yet, nor when exactly the acquisition will be completed, but these details are probably less important for consumers.
