Just a few moments ago, Arne Exton, the creator of numerous GNU/Linux and Android-x86 distributions, sent us an email to inform us about the release of a new build for his RaspEX Ubuntu- and Debian-based distro for Raspberry Pi 2 devices.

RaspEX Build 151001 is now available for download, for free, based on the Debian GNU/Linux 8 (Jessie) and Ubuntu 15.04 (Vivid Vervet) operating systems, as well as on the latest Linaro open-source software for ARM SoCs. The system is powered by Linux kernel 3.18.7 and it's built around the LXDE desktop environment.

The new RaspEX build comes with several tools pre-installed that let users connect their Raspberry Pi 2 devices to Windows computers connected to the local network, such as Samba, SSH (Secure Shell), and VNC4Server. Additionally, the VNC Viewer and Putty tools can be used to control your Raspberry Pi 2 device from a Windows PC, but they need to be installed first.

"My first version of RaspEX is from 150318 and my second from 150706. I have now upgraded the whole system. RaspEX is a Linux ARM system for Raspberry Pi 2. It is based on Debian Jessie (Debian 8), Ubuntu Vivid Vervet (Ubuntu 15.04) and Linaro (Open Source software for ARM SoCs)," says Arne Exton in an email to Softpedia.

RaspEX Build 151001 comes with the Wicd network manager utility, as well as the latest version of the open-source Chromium web browser with support for the Adobe Flash Player plugin so that you can watch YouTube. The OS includes other useful software, such as Synaptic Package Manager, which can be used to install any applications you can think of from the official Ubuntu 15.04 software repositories.

RaspEX is a Linux ARM operating system for your Raspberry Pi 2 single-board computer, and according to its developer, it is faster, more useful, and more fun than the recommended systems for such devices, including Raspbian, Snappy Ubuntu Core, or Noobs.

Download RaspEX Build 151001 right now from Softpedia. Detailed installation instructions are provided on the project's website.
