Developer Arne Exton has released a new build of his RaspAnd GNU/Linux operating system for Raspberry Pi 3 single-board computers, adding the latest software versions.

Still based on Google's Android 7.1.2 Nougat mobile operating system, RaspAnd Build 171215 comes with the GAPPS (Google Apps) package pre-installed offering users a working Google Play Store to install Android apps, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi improvements, and the latest TeamViewer 13 for controlling other PCs from a Raspberry Pi 3 SBC.

"The video performance is generally much better than in previous versions," writes Arne Exton in the release announcement. "Your Wi-Fi connection is stable and it will reconnect after every reboot of your Raspberry Pi 3. RaspAnd Nougat 7.1.2 Build 171215 is an Android 7.1.2 Nougat system which can run on Raspberry Pi 3."

RaspAnd now shipping with Kodi 17.6

Besides shipping with the latest TeamViewer 13 program, the latest RaspAnd build comes pre-installed with the recently released Kodi 17.6 media center, Aptoide TV 3.2.5 package manager, ES File Explorer 4.1.6.7.5 file manager, Spotify TV 1.6.3 music player, and the Clash of Clans 9.256.19 strategy game with Google Play Games support.

Other than that, users will find the Termux terminal emulator, AIDA64 1.47 hardware and software information utility, Jelly Browser 7.1.2 web browser, and Chess 2.3.6 game. RaspAnd Nougat 7.1.2 Build 171215 is powered by the Linux 4.4.104-exton-v7+ kernel, and partially supports Raspberry Pi Foundation's 7-inch touchscreen.

Another interesting feature implemented in RaspAnd Nougat 7.1.2 with GAPPS is the ability to install the operating system on a Micro SD card in Windows 10 using either the win32 disk imager or Etcher utilities. Detailed installations instructions are provided by the developer here.

Some limitations are still present in this release of RaspAnd, such as that you won't be able to use Netflix, nor the YouTube app (use Kodi 17.6 to watch YouTube videos). Also, be aware that not all Android apps will run in RaspAnd, which costs $9 USD for new installations.
