The four baby lions are all in their mother's care

A couple of weeks ago, on the night of September 26 to September 27, four very rare white lion cubs were born at Toronto Zoo in Canada. The first two arrived less than an hour apart, at 10:35 p.m. and 11:17 p.m., respectively. The third was born at 4:15 a.m. the next morning and then another arrived at 6:40 a.m.

Being just days old, the baby lions are still hidden in the family den. Their mother, named Makali, is looking after all of them and, by the looks of it, is doing a pretty good job keeping them safe and sound.

Videos released by Toronto Zoo, which you can find below, show the cubs crawling around their secluded home, nursing and cuddling with their mom. Every now and again, the baby lions try to let out a mighty roar. Of course, being pretty much smaller than a common house cat, they don't really scare anybody.

Staff at the wildlife sanctuary explain that, for young lions, the first month of their life is critical. This is why they have chosen not to upset the family in any way and instead settle for monitoring them via a camera that was installed in the den prior to the cubs' arrival. In a few weeks, the cubs will leave the den on their own.

“While Makali is doing well and all cubs are feeding and appear healthy, the first 30 days are critical for each of them. Wildlife Care staff will continue to closely monitor them in the maternity den of the lion habitat,” Toronto Zoo writes in a statement.
