Rapper DMX, who shot to fame in the ‘90s but has been getting media attention regularly for his troubles with the law, may be in trouble again. Newark police are investigating claims that he and his entourage robbed a 21-year-old man at gunpoint on Easter Sunday, at a gas station in New Jersey.

For the record, DMX’s attorney has already issued a statement on the allegations made against his client, calling them “unequivocally and utterly false.” He is convinced the surveillance video will prove DMX’s innocence.

DMX took victim’s money and ran

Newark police spokesman Sgt. Ronald Glover confirms for NJ.com that an investigation is now underway to determine the nature of the allegations against the rapper, real name Earl Simmons.

The victim went to the police to say that, on the night of Easter Sunday, he was at a gas station in New Jersey, when DMX and his entourage pulled up. He approached the rapper to ask for an autograph and the customary photo opportunity.

“The two had a brief conversation about rap music and during the conversation a male in DMX’s entourage, showed the victim a gun and demanded the victim's money,” Sgt. Glover says.

The victim took out all the money he had in his wallet, about $3,200 (€2,946) in cash. DMX reached out his hand, snatched the money from his hand and put it in his pocket, and then jumped into one of the 4 Cadillac Escalades they’d arrived in, and was gone.

The victim further told the police that he too got in his car and engaged in a pursuit for long enough to be able to get one of the cars’ license plate, which he later provided to the investigators.

However, according to DMX’s attorney, none of that ever happened. It’s all just a lie.

A long track record of arrests

DMX has been in trouble with the law more than we could count, should we care to. For instance, he was once famously arrested for trying to steal a car at the NYC Kennedy airport, he was arrested for DUI and driving on a suspended license, he was arrested for parole violation and possession, and the list could continue.

He also did time on a variety of charges and came out seemingly worse than before. In recent years, DMX has been making a lot of headlines for his erratic behavior and even more erratic interviews.

In February last year, he got media attention for a supposed fight with the controversial George Zimmerman, which he’d agreed to do if the money was right. In the end, he claimed he had never agreed to it and that it had all been a misunderstanding made easy by the tabloid media.
