Changes are also being made to Casual and Ranked

The development team at Ubisoft in charge of Rainbow Six Siege is announcing that it continues to work on a major update for the tactical shooter, which is supposed to deal with connectivity and server issues and might be out before the end of the year.

At the same time, the studio is aiming to also deal with another priority of the player base: the launch of a new playlist that offers a more hardcore experience for long-term fans of the series who want to experience a shooter that's as realistic as possible.

A special preset is being introduced for custom games in Rainbow Six Siege as a stopgap measure that Ubisoft wants to make sure that the coming playlist will appeal to all those who believe that both casual and ranked cannot deliver the experience they want.

The forum announcement states, "We are convinced that Casual and Ranked experiences should be as close and consistent as possible. Players of Casual matches should feel welcome to try a more 'competitive' playlist and get a rating for their performances, without having to re-learn or re-adapt to new settings. Similarly, Ranked players should feel compelled to launch in Casual, either to play without 'ladder anxiety' or just to try out a new strategy or Operator."

The company is also tweaking the HUD options for both the existing playlists based on the feedback offered by 10,000 Rainbow Six Siege players, all of them from the United States or the United Kingdom.

The kill cam is present for Ranked while Casual players will have to auto-cycle through all the spawn points on a map.

Ubisoft claims that it needs time to create the Hardcore playlist and that it wants to keep fans involved in the process as much as possible.

Rainbow Six Siege will get a patch relatively soon

The company is not ready to talk about a launch date for the patch, which many members of the player base are eagerly awaiting, but the fact that notes on all the tweaks might arrive this week might mean that the release is planned to take place before the end of the year.

Ubisoft has already promised that the first piece of post-launch downloadable content for Rainbow Six Siege, called Black Ice, will arrive during January of 2016.

Gamers will be able to get the new map that's included and two new Operators for free, but they will have to spend the in-game currency to use the characters in their matches.

Ubisoft is also planning to introduce entirely cosmetic items that can only be obtained by those who are willing to pay real world money.

A total of four DLC packs are planned for the shooter, all of them set to arrive in 2016.

When Black Ice arrives for Rainbow Six Siege, the company will also reset ranked play to make sure that all gamers have a chance to compete once again for the top spots on the leaderboards.

It's unclear whether the same process will also be used for the coming Hardcore playlist.
