The remains of Gene Roddenberry, creator of “Star Trek,” as well as those of James Doohan, the actor that played the famous Scotty on the series will head for space next year.

The cremated remains of the two men will be joined by those of Roddenberry’s wife into a trip into space with the memorial spaceflight company Celestis in November 2014, Reuters reports.

According to a message sent out by Celestis, the remains will be part of a cargo that will include written messages and samples of DNA in capsules sent by the general public.

"What's very cool about this is that it's science fiction meeting reality," Celestis spokeswoman Pazia Schonfeld said.

All items will be placed on a solar sail, a spacecraft that is powered by sunlight and built to resist to high temperatures. The ship will head for the Sun’s orbit and its entire journey will be captured by cameras on board the craft and streamed live online.
