An article on social sharing site Reddit has put one headline into the public eye. It basically relays how the American Revolution started in a news piece with a sensationalist title.

“Seventy-two Killed Resisting Gun Confiscation in Boston,” the title reads. It has blown up on the site with 1,304 up votes and it has people convinced that the piece of news is current.

“National guard units [...] were ambushed on April 19th by elements of a para-military extremist faction. Military and law enforcement sources estimate that 72 were killed and more than 200 injured before government forces were compelled to withdraw,” it reads.

It details how National Guards have been shot at by residents while they were trying to take their guns away following a weapons ban.

The article reveals what prompted the Battle of Lexington, which took place on April 19, 1775 on Lexington Green. It has however, been phrased as to depict a current event.

It cites a government official explaining that the 72 gun owners that were killed were at fault for the attack for refusing to surrender their military-style assault weapons. The post also features a link to the video posted above.
