Renowned German optics company, Leica is well known for their one-of-a-kind cameras created in collaboration with the world's renowned photographers and designers.

In a recent press release, Transcontinenta, the importer of Leica cameras in the Netherlands, announced a new limited edition camera created at the initiative of Duncan Meeder, the owner of Leica Store Lisse, in cooperation with world renowned photographer, Ralph Gibson.

Ralph Gibson has been using Leica M cameras for more than five decades and was convinced that a digital camera could never compete with the quality of black and white images captured by analog cameras. That was until he tried a Leica M Monochrom.

As a special feature, the new Limited Edition “Ralph Gibson” Leica M Monochrom camera comes with a black leather upholstery in a beautiful volcanic pattern and silver-plated top. The same high-quality leather is also used for the camera's shoulder strap.

The limited edition camera kit also includes the Summilux-M 1:1.4 / 35mm ASPH lens that comes with a silver-anodized chrome finish while the chrome top of the camera bears the signature of Ralph Gibson himself as an inscription.

The Limited Edition “Ralph Gibson” Leica M Monochrom camera kit comes wrapped in an exclusive gift box, along with a limited edition of Ralph Gibson's new book “MONO.”

The camera has the same technical specs as the usual Leica M Monochrome and only 35 copies will be manufactured, the first one being available on December 11 in the Leica store in Lisse, Netherlands.

A week ago, the Limited Edition Leica M camera was auctioned at Sotheby's and has been sold for $1,805 million / €1,327 million, which made it the most expensive digital camera in the world. The camera is designed by renowned Apple Senior Vice President of Design, Sir Jonathan Ive, and London-based designer Mark Newson.

In addition to that, another limited edition camera was announced (Leica X2 Gagosian) by the German optics company, which was made in collaboration with the famous Gagosian Gallery.
