The "50 shades of grey" theme, which is compatible with many desktop environments of all kinds, has received an update and is now available for download.

"50 shades of grey" is actually a theme pack that comes with a number of GTK 3 and GTK 2-compatible versions. The designer has explained that it should work with MATE, Gnome Classic, Cinnamon, GNOME Shell, and Unity.

The theme doesn't have a proper installation package, which means that the files will have to be manually moved in the appropriate folders. For example, on Ubuntu, you will have to open a Nautilus instance, with root privileges from the terminal by entering the following command:

sudo nautilus

According to the developer, the latest version fixes GTK3 application environments and this means that all distros from Ubuntu 12.04.4 up to Ubuntu 14.04 will work with this pack of themes.

Users will find that "50 shades of grey" actually features models for paper, concrete, wet snow, fabrics, plaid, handwriting, waves, old prints, stripes, and various small patterns. An application like Ubuntu Tweak Tool, for example, will be needed to activate the themes.

More details about the theme can be found on the official website. You can download it from gnome-look.org.
