The classic Windows Defender is still there in the CU

Windows Defender evolved to Windows Defender Security Center with the release of Windows 10 Creators Update, as it now groups all security features of the operating system for easier access.

And while Microsoft’s idea is supposed to come in handy to everyone looking for security features in Windows 10, it’s not a secret that change is hard, and there are plenty of users out there who’d rather stick with the original interface rather than switch to an upgraded version.

Living proof is the new Start menu in Windows 10, which, although it marks the return of this popular feature after its demise in Windows 8, was still received with mixed reactions by users who wanted a design in line with the one in Windows 7.

The old Windows Defender

But as far as Windows Defender is concerned, running the original version is not at all a difficult thing, mostly because Microsoft is still offering it in Windows 10 Creators Update.

All you need to do, however, is launch it manually, as the executable file is located in the Windows Defender folder, but not launched by the operating system.

Specifically, the classic version of Windows Defender can be found at the following path:

C:\Program Files\Windows Defender\MSASCui.exe You can thus double-click this executable file to launch the classic Windows Defender or create a shortcut on the desktop for faster access, so you can very well launch the antivirus from the new Windows Defender Security Center as well.

At some point in the future, Microsoft could remove the old version altogether, especially because all efforts are now on the Creators Update. The next Windows 10 version that could bring changes in this regard is Redstone 3 and it is scheduled to launch in September, though there’s still no confirmation of any Windows Defender improvements.
