The alleged Nokia flagship will be announced in February

Bad news for Nokia fans, as Qualcomm denied previous reports about the flagship smartphone that was filmed at CES 2017 trade fair. The so-called Nokia Supreme, which is said to be released on the market as Nokia 8, is nothing more than a reference design device that Qualcomm was using to demonstrate some of the Snapdragon 835's capabilities.

We reported earlier this week that a video of an alleged Nokia flagship was uploaded on YouTube, which contained not just images of the device but also some information about its specs.

According to the owner of the YouTube channel, the device in the video is none other than the Nokia 8, HMD Global's next Nokia-branded smartphone to be unveiled next month at Mobile World Congress 2017.

Two versions of the Nokia 8 were supposedly showcased at Qualcomm's booth, each powered by a different chipset: Snapdragon 821 and Snapdragon 835.

Aside from that, the leakster also claimed the smartphone should pack a 24-megapixel rear-facing camera with OIS (Optical Image Stabilization) and Super EIS 3.0.

Other highlights of the Nokia 8 include 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display that supports Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution, 6GB RAM, as well as either 64GB or 128GB of internal memory.

Unfortunately, the information above might not be true now that Qualcomm clearly states that the phones in the video are nothing more than its own reference design devices meant to show many of Snapdragon 835's features.

The folks over at Nokiamob have reached out to Qualcomm for an official statement regarding the supposedly Nokia 8 caught on video at CES 2017, so here is what the company had to say about the matter:

"We do not disclose details of our reference design. We've seen a few stories rumoring what we demonstrated in our CES booth to be a Nokia device, those reports are not accurate, our 835 demos were on our own reference design devices which we use to demo our Snapdragon SOC's every year," explains Qualcomm's spokeswoman, Catherine Baker.
