14 DAY TRIAL // Qualcomm has just recently released the latest Snapdragon 821 processor with some improvements over the previous Snapdragon 820, which has powered many flagship smartphones. Now, it seems that leaks regarding the upcoming Snapdragon 830 processor have just surfaced online.
Information on the upcoming Qualcomm Snapdragon 830 has surfaced over at MyDrivers.com, showing that the chip is internally known as MSM8998 while Snapdragon 820 was dubbed MSM8996. The chip differs from its predecessor in some key aspects, which proves that Qualcomm intends to make the Snapdragon 830 have a bigger impact on the market compared to the Snapdragon 821.
SD830 or MSM8998 will reportedly be based on a more recent 10nm process, as opposed to the 14nm process that was used for fabricating Snapdragon 820. In addition, it is said to integrate an LTE Cat. 16 modem while the SD 820 features Cat. 12. The leak points to one key matter regarding the upcoming Snapdragon 830, namely, that it will integrate an octa-core CPU, which will double the amount of custom Kryo CPU cores compared to its predecessor.
Snapdragon 830 might arrive late this year or in early 2017
The report fails to mention an estimated release date for the Snapdragon 830, but it’s highly likely that it will debut in late 2016 or during the first quarter of 2017.
Then, word is that Qualcomm might release the Snapdragon 823 this year, with considerably increased clock frequency compared to its predecessor. It might have speeds of 2.8GHz while Snapdragon 820 only managed to reach 2.2GHz.
Snapdragon 821 has recently been released, with Qualcomm mentioning that the new processor was built on the features of SD 820 and comes with 10% increased processing speed. Snapdragon 821 features quad-core Kryo CPU with the capacity to reach speeds of 2.4GHz.
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processors have been making an appearance in flagship smartphones, but it’s highly likely that the Snapdragon 821 will be featured in Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Note 7.
