Along with the unveiling of its Snapdragon 835, Qualcomm announced the new Quick Charge 4 fast charging technology, which will be available with the next-generation processor.

Quick Charge 4 is a major upgrade over Qualcomm's previous fast charging technologies, but in order to give you an idea how good the new technology really is, the US-based company made a few comparisons with one of the previous versions.

So, compared to Quick Charge 3.0, the new Quick Charge 4 is up to 20% faster, or 30% more efficient. At the same time, the technology charges up to 5 degrees Celsius cooler.

According to Qualcomm, the Quick Charge 4 technology can charge your battery for 5 hours of use in just 5 minutes. Moreover, the technology has been especially developed to charge a standard smartphone from zero to 50% in up to 15 minutes, which is quite an achievement.

Aside from these impressive numbers, Qualcomm has also revealed some other improvements that Quick Charge 4 brings over the previous technologies.

For example, the new technology fully supports USB Type-C and USB Power Deliver (USB PD) standards. Also, the new Battery Saver adds advanced features that are meant to extend battery cycle life and offer much better safety.

INOV, or Intelligent Negotiation for Optimum Voltage, version 3 can determine what power level to request at any point in time, which translates in optimum power transfer and maximized efficiency.

Qualcomm confirmed that a compatible device can request to within 20mV or lower the specific power needed to charge while also running advanced algorithms for case, battery, chip, as well as connector.

Last but not least, Quick Charge 4 comes with Dual Charge support by including a second power management IC in the smartphone. Whenever you charge your phone via Dual Charge, the energy will be divided, thus allowing for more efficient thermal dissipation and reducing charge time.
