Qualcomm has just released the latest flagship processor, the Snapdragon 821. It is said to come with 10% increased performance compared to last year's Snapdragon 820, with the company announcing that the new processor was built on the previous chipset, and not as a replacement.

In the release announcement, Qualcomm states that the previous Snapdragon 820 chipset has been featured in over 115 premium smartphones and tablets since its release. One of the reasons the Snapdragon 820 has been so successful is the fact that it came with new technologies meant to improve user experience on mobile devices.

Snapdragon 821 features improvements over the previous Snapdragon 820, as it provides higher speed, enhanced power savings, and increased application performance. The company has mentioned that the new chipset comes with 10% increased performance as compared to the 820 with the Qualcomm Kryo quad-core CPU that reaches speeds up to 2.4GHz.

The Snapdragon 821 isn't set to replace the 820 model, but rather to fix some issues that the Snapdragon 820 had, among which overheating. Snapdragon 820 came with some optimized technologies that provided users with higher download speeds, improved call quality, and reliability.

Snapdragon 821 could be featured on the Galaxy Note 7

Snapdragon 820 has been featured in multiple flagship devices, including the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge, Xiaomi Mi5, LG G5, HTC 10, LeEco Max 2 and Sony Xperia X. The processor delivered great performance when coupled with the Galaxy's Gear VR headset for virtual reality.

Considering the performances of Snapdragon 820, the latest model will surely impress the market since it comes with lots of improvements over the previous one. The company has even mentioned that “the Snapdragon 821 will help set a new bar for smartphones, tablets, mobile VR head mounted displays and other new devices.”

Snapdragon 821 is expected to be featured in flagship smartphones set to be released in the second half of 2016. One such device could very well be Samsung's Galaxy Note 7.
