The Qt Company, through Tuukka Turunen, was pleased to announce the availability of the Beta release of the upcoming Qt 5.9 open-source and cross-platform GUI (Graphical User Interface) toolkit.

Qt 5.9 entered developed in February this year, when it received an Alpha build, which represented an early stage of evolutionary development, but the Beta is here to give Qt application developers an early taste of what's coming to the final Qt 5.9 release, which should hit the streets at the end of May.

"Qt 5.9, scheduled to be released at the end of May, completes the work started with Qt 5.7 and 5.8 to take Qt 5 to the next level. Compared to Qt 5.6 LTS we have added a lot of new features," said Tuukka Turunen in the release announcement. 'With Qt 5.9 we are slightly adjusting the release process of Qt."

Qt 5.9 to fully leverage C++11, add new configuration system

Promising to fully leverage C++11, Qt 5.9 promises to add a large number of improvements and new features, among which we can mention a brand-new configuration system, Qt 3D, a new graphics architecture, improved Wayland multi-process support, as well as a new set of Qt Quick Controls.

The Qt 5.9 Beta release is available for download right now on our website.

You can test it on GNU/Linux, macOS, and Microsoft Windows operating systems, and keep in mind that several new Betas will be made available in the coming weeks through the online installer.
