The Qt Company, through Tuukka Turunen, announced today the third maintenance and stability update to the latest Qt 5.9 LTS open-source and cross-platform application framework.

While Qt 5.9.3 does not add any new functionality to the long-term supported Qt 5.9 series, it would appear to be a major bugfix release that adds more than 500 changes compared to the previous update, Qt 5.9.2, which is currently used by default in various Linux-based and other operating systems.

Over 100 of these are only bug fixes, as the rest are various improvements that should add an extra layer of performance to your Qt 5.9 implementation. Moreover, Qt 5.9.3 appears to patch two recently disclosed security vulnerabilities in the Qt for Android port. Check out the full changelog for more details.

"Compared to Qt 5.9.2, the new Qt 5.9.3 contains over 100 bug fixes and in total more than 500 changes since Qt 5.9.2," said Tuukka Turunen in today's announcement. "Qt 5.9.3 release also contains the latest security fixes, including fixes to the two vulnerabilities in Qt for Android port."

Qt 5.9.4 coming January 2018

As promised when the Qt 5.9 series of the popular open-source and cross-platform application framework was released a few months ago, the development team will release regular maintenance updates to improve its functionality. And the next scheduled patch release if Qt 5.9.4, which is expected to arrive in January 2018.

Of course, Qt 5.9.4 will bring another set of bug fixes for the Qt 5.9 branch, but, until then, we recommend upgrading to Qt 5.9.3 as soon as possible, or as soon as the new packages are available for your OS. You can also update using the maintenance tool if you're using the online installer, or download the binaries right now from our website.
