Keeping the spirit of the deprecated KDE 3.5 desktop environment alive, the developers of the Q4OS GNU/Linux distribution informed us today about the general availability of the new "Scorpion" series, a.k.a. Q4OS 2.x.

After being in development for the past several months, the Q4OS 2 series of the Debian-based OS has been finally materialized as version 2.4, dubbed "Scorpion" and derived from the recently released Debian GNU/Linux 9.2 "Stretch" operating system. But the best part is that this major release is LTS (Long Term Support), which means that it will receive support for the next five years.

"This is a long-term support LTS release, to be supported for at least five years with security patches and software updates," reads today's announcement. "Q4OS Scorpion is based on Debian Stretch 9.2 and Trinity 14.0.5 desktop environment, and it is available for 64bit and 32bit/i686pae computers, as well as i386 systems without PAE extension."

Offers exclusive features and utilities, runs Trinity DE 14.0.5

Using the TDE (Trinity Desktop Environment) 14.0.5 as default desktop environment, Q4OS 2.4 "Scorpion" offers exclusive features and in-house built utilities, such as a Welcome Screen that integrates support for installing additional desktops like KDE Plasma 5, LXQt, LXDE, Xfce, or even Linux Mint's Cinnamon, a Setup Utility that makes installing third-party apps a breeze.

The first-time configuration of the operating system is also easy with the Welcome Screen if you're a newcomer to Q4OS, and this release comes with a Desktop Profiler tool as well, which can be used to profile your personal computer into various professional working tools. You can download Q4OS 2.4 for 64-bit and 32-bit PCs right now from our website, and it will soon be available for 64-bit and 32-bit ARM architectures.
