The first development milestone is now ready for testing

The developers of the Debian-based Q4OS Linux distribution built around the Trinity Desktop Environment (TDE) project, which aims to keep the spirit of the legacy KDE 3.5 desktop environment alive, have informed Softpedia earlier about the immediate availability for download and testing of the first snapshot of Q4OS 2.0.

Dubbed Scorpion, Q4OS 2.0 will be the next major version of the Debian-based distribution, derived from the Debian GNU/Linux 9 (Stretch) operating system and built around the development branch of the Trinity Desktop Environment, version 14.1. The first milestone is now available for download and testing to anyone willing to give it a try.

It would appear that the development process will be in sync with Debian 9 Stretch's one, which means that, when the final and stable version of Debian GNU/Linux 9 (Stretch) is officially announced, so will the final and stable version of Q4OS 2.0. Being based on Debian GNU/Linux 9, which is an LTS (Long Term Support) release, Q4OS 2.0 will also be supported with software updates and security patches for five years.

"We introduce the initial development build of the new major Q4OS version 2.0, codenamed 'Scorpion.' This release is based on Debian 'Stretch' and Trinity desktop 14.1 development branch. Q4OS Scorpion will be in development as long as Debian Stretch becomes stable and will be supported at least five years from official release date," said the Q4OS Team on an email to Softpedia.

The first Q4OS 2.0 snapshot is available for download today

Those of you who want to take the Q4OS 2.0 for a test drive can do so today by downloading the first Q4OS 2.0 snapshot right now from Softpedia, where the operating system is distributed as Live CDs for both 32-bit (i686-PAE) and 64-bit (x86_64) CPU architectures. Please try to keep in mind though that these are pre-release versions and are not suitable for deployment on production environments.
