Today, November 9, 2016, the developers of the Q4OS GNU/Linux distribution were pleased to inform Softpedia about the release and immediate availability of the Q4OS 1.8 "Orion" release.

For those who never heard of Q4OS, it's an open-source and free Linux-based computer operating system built around the Trinity Desktop Environment (TDE), a unique initiative to keep the spirit of the old-school KDE 3.5 desktop alive. The stable Q4OS branch is currently based on the Debian GNU/Linux 8 "Jessie" distribution.

And now, Q4OS 1.8 "Orion" is the latest and most advanced version of the GNU/Linux distro that targets both experienced and new users who want to use the newest Debian technologies from the Debian Jessie 8.6 release in combination with the brand new 14.0.4 version of the Trinity desktop environment.

"Q4OS development team is pleased to announce [the] immediate availability of the new significant release of the Q4OS 'Orion' desktop, version 1.8. This is a stable version of the Q4OS desktop, based on the recent Debian Jessie 8.6 release and the brand new version of the Trinity 14.0.4 desktop environment," reads today's announcement.

LookSwitcher tool has been rewritten

Q4OS 1.8 "Orion" is here to replace the 1.6 series of the distribution, and among other new features implemented we can mention updated in-house built tools, such as LookSwitcher, which has been rewritten from scratch and lets users select different desktop themes.

Last but not least, the Q4OS Live Installer tool has been updated to simplify the creation of a set of disk partitions where the operating system will be installed, along with better support for modern UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) systems. Q4OS 1.8 "Orion" is available for download right now from our website, but existing users can upgrade their installations as we speak.
