Softpedia was informed today, October 4, 2016, by the Q4OS team about the release and immediate availability of the third maintenance update to the stable Q4OS 1.6 "Orion" operating system series.

Q4OS 1.6.3 "Orion" is here three weeks after the release of Q4OS 1.6.2, and it looks like it comes with many goodies for fans of the Debian-based distro built around the Trinity Desktop Environment (TDE) project designed from the offset to keep the spirit of the KDE 3.5 desktop alive.

Probably the most important change in the Q4OS 1.6.3 "Orion" release is that both the installation-only and live ISO images now come with support for booting on modern UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) machines. Moreover, the OS has been rebased on the latest Debian GNU/Linux 8.6 "Jessie" operating system.

"New version 1.6.3 adds initial UEFI support for both, live CD and install CD. Q4OS media are now ready to boot on UEFI machines, install Q4OS system in UEFI mode as well as automatically insert an entry into the boot manager," said the devs. "Q4OS Orion 1.6.3 is re-based on the the latest release of Debian Jessie 8.6."

Q4OS 1.6.3 contains the newest security patches

Q4OS 1.6.3 "Orion" is also here to add the newest security patches and software releases from the upstream Debian Jessie (Stable) repositories. Additionally, the devs managed to address specific Q4OS fixes that had been reported by users since Q4OS 1.6.2, as well as various under-the-hood improvements.

If you're using Q4OS 1.6.2 or a previous release, you'll get all these changes via the automatic update process in the coming days. In the meantime, newcomers can download the Q4OS 1.6.3 Live and Install CD ISO images for 64- and 32-bit computers right now via our website.
