Barry Kauler, lead developer and creator of the Puppy Linux distribution, has had the great pleasure of announcing the immediate availability for download of the Quirky 7.2 distrolette.

For those of you who are not in the loop, Quirky is a sister project of the Puppy Linux distribution, but is designed from the ground up for aspiring Android app developers, as it includes all sort of nifty tools that allow them to get started with Android app development within minutes.

With Quirky you can create some of the most awesome applications for Google's Android mobile operating system, and now, version 7.2 brings a new kernel version, Linux 4.1.7 LTS, and adds major structural changes to the graphical stack by implementing X.Org in /usr and removing the old /usr/X11R7 so that the distribution can be in line with all the other GNU/Linux operating systems out there.

"This is another release of Quirky in the 'April' series, that started with version 7.0 earlier this year," says Barry Kauler. "Since the previous release of Quirky, there have been steady improvements, nothing really dramatic, but lots of things here and there. [...] I have only released the amd64 (x86_64) build. The x86 (32-bit) build of Quirky 7.2 is expected to be uploaded in a few days."

Dia diagram creator has been added, many apps have been updated

In addition to the new X11 restructuring and Linux kernel 4.1.7 LTS, Quirky 7.2 updates or improves many of the pre-installed applications and core components. For example, the Samba and SeaMonkey software have been updated to their latest versions available as of October 7, 2015, and the open-source Dia diagram creator tool has been added.

Last but not least, the PupWhoIs utility has been added to the 7.2 release of Quirky Linux, and it aims to be a graphical user interface for the whois command-line tool. You can download Quirky 7.2 right now from Softpedia, but please note that only the 64-bit ISO image is available. The 32-bit ISO will be released in the coming days, so make sure that you bookmark the download page.
