Proxmox Server Solutions GmbH, the company behind the Debian-based Proxmox Virtual Environment and Proxmox Mail Gateway products, announced the release of the Proxmox VE 4.4 operating system.

The release of the Proxmox Virtual Environment (VE) 4.4 server virtualization platform brings a handful of exciting new features to enterprise users who use the GNU/Linux distribution on their infrastructures. Among these, we can mention a new dashboard for Ceph and cluster, which might just come in handy for sysadmins who want to get an in-depth overview of Ceph's monitors, status, and OSDs.

"The new Ceph dashboard gives the administrator a comprehensive overview of the Ceph status, the Ceph monitors, the Ceph OSDs, and the current performance and utilization of the Ceph cluster. Together with the existing disk management, the new dashboard simplifies the ease-of-use and administration of Ceph storage and paves the way to the complete software-defined data center," reads the announcement.

Proxmox VE HA Stack updated with a bunch of new functions

Another interesting feature implemented in the Proxmox Virtual Environment (VE) 4.4 release is a GUI (Graphical User Interface) for creating unprivileged containers, which was only possible via the command-line in previous releases of the Linux OS. Additionally, it looks like several LXC templates for various operating systems have been updated and there's a bunch of new functions for the Proxmox VE HA Stack.

Ultimately, Proxmox VE 4.4 adds a new function called Container Restart Migration, which is engineered to ease system administrator's work when moving servers or doing maintenance work on the host, as well as a new CPU Core Limitation feature that helps with the distribution of performance between containers.
