Proxmox Server Solutions GmbH, the company behind the open-source server virtualization platform Proxmox Virtual Environment (VE), a Linux kernel-based operating system derived from Debian GNU/Linux, announced the immediate availability for download and testing of Proxmox Virtual Environment 4.0 Beta 1.

Being based on the great Debian GNU/Linux 8 (Jessie) operating system, the first Beta of the upcoming Proxmox Virtual Environment 4.0 distribution comes with great new features, such the inclusion of Linux Containers (LXC), the latest stable DRBD9 packages, as well as Proxmox VE HA Manager and Proxmox HA Simulator.

The number one feature of the upcoming Proxmox Virtual Environment (VE) 4.0 operating system is Proxmox VE HA Manager (package name is pve-ha-manager), which replaces the rgmanager tool as the brand-new resource manager for high availability clusters. Of course, Proxmox VE HA Manager has been developed by the Proxmox team.

"The HA manager monitors all virtual machines and containers on the cluster and automatically gets into action if one of them fails. It works out of the box, and additionally watchdog-based fencing simplifies deployments dramatically. The whole HA settings are configured via GUI," reads the announcement.

The second biggest feature of the forthcoming Proxmox Virtual Environment (VE) 4.0 operating system is the all-new Proxmox HA Simulator tool that has been designed from the ground up by Proxmox to allow users to learn and test all the functionality of the Proxmox Virtual Environment HA solution before it goes into production.

Also, the final version of Proxmox Virtual Environment 4.0 will be the first to incorporate Linux Containers (LXC), which will be fully integrated into the Proxmox VE frameworks and compatible with all the latest Linux kernels. The first stable DRBD9 packages will be included as well for high performance workloads.
