Today, September 27, 2016, Proxmox Server Solutions GmbH proudly announced the immediate availability of the Proxmox VE (Virtual Environment) 4.3 open source, Linux-based hyper-converged server virtualization solution.

The biggest new feature of the Proxmox VE 4.3 release appears to be a new reference documentation that users can download in various formats, including as EPUB, PDF or HTML, helping newcomers get started with Proxmox much faster. However, it looks like it is based on the Debian GNU/Linux 8.6 "Jessie" and Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (Xenial Xerus) operating systems, running LXC 2.0 and Linux kernel 4.4 LTS.

"The new docu framework allows a global as well as contextual help function. Proxmox users can access and download the technical documentation via the central help-button (available in various formats like HTML, PDF, and EPUB)," reads today's press announcement. "A main asset of the new documentation is that it is always version specific to the current user’s software version."

Updated vertical GUI structure, new GUI features

Another important component that received improvements in the Proxmox VE 4.3 release is the GUI (Graphical User Interface), which received an updated vertical structure and several new features, such as status overview for containers, virtual machines, host, and storage, a search function, and a brand new Disk Overview section where you can see wear-out for enterprise SSDs and S.M.A.R.T. status for HDDs.

Additionally, there are now signal colors to display used capacity of a processor, the "Create VM" wizard has been updated to offer optimized settings that are dependent on the Linux kernel-based host operating system, the "Task log" window will now remember its size, and it's now possible to open the console with a double mouse click on a container or virtual machine.
