Proxmox Server Solutions GmbH, a renowned company developing the Proxmox VE (Virtual Environment) server virtualization operating system based on the Linux kernel, announced the release of Proxmox VE 4.2.

Proxmox VE is now used by more than 120,000 hosts in over 140 countries, and the new release, version 4.2, promises exciting new features and lots of under-the-hood improvements for existing functionality and core components. Proxmox VE 4.2 is based on the latest Debian GNU/Linux 8.4 "Jessie" operating system.

"The open source virtualization platform Proxmox VE is a hyper-converged solution enabling users to create and manage LXC containers and KVM virtual machines on the same host, and makes it easy to set up highly available clusters, as well as to manage network and storage via an integrated web-based management interface," reads the announcement.

Here's what's new in Proxmox VE (Virtual Environment) 4.2

Prominent new features of Proxmox VE (Virtual Environment) 4.2 include the new Sencha Ext JS 6 framework, which now offers a modern, flat design to the Proxmox VE GUI for optimal user experience, increased storage utilization thanks to the new LVM-thin and the multitude of ZFS improvements.

Another interesting new feature of Proxmox VE 4.2 is support for SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) certificates via the well-known and widely used "Let's Encrypt" project, providing users with free and open certificate authority with automated renewal and short expiry. The integration of Let's Encrypt in Proxmox VE will boost its presence on the Linux server market.

Lastly, users can now select ZFS storage during the installation process of the Proxmox VE 4.2 Linux operating system. When choosing ZFS for the storage drive, the installer will automatically configure the ZFS-Plugin, providing an out-of-the-box ZFS experience.
