The laptop can be customized with more powerful hardware

Entroware is a UK-based company that specialized in selling hardware powered only by Linux operating systems. Proteus is the top-of-the-line laptop from Entroware, and it comes with either Ubuntu 15.04 or Ubuntu MATE 15.04.

We covered the Apollo laptop a couple of days ago, and it's a beautiful model, white, and fairly powerful. Proteus, on the other hand, is much more focused on the performance side of things, and it's a lot more rugged. It's also customizable with various CPUs, RAM, and HDDs, but it's the only one that comes with a dedicated video card and that can only mean one thing. It's much better at gaming than your regular laptop.

Entroware started to provide Ubuntu MATE as an option just a few months ago, with the Aura mini-PC, but now that kind of systems can be found in all fferings. As far as we know, this is the only place where you can get Ubuntu MATE by default, but on the other hand this is a free OS and you can install it anywhere you want, even if it didn't ship with your product.

Proteus is made for gaming

The first thing you will notice is the fact that the laptop comes with a dedicated video card, which is great if you also want to play some more demanding games. It's not going to run all the latest titles, but it's a lot more powerful than a simple integrated Intel solution.

"With a base price of £649, a 1080p screen and backlit keyboard, the Proteus is our flagship Ubuntu laptop. With a dedicated Nvidia GeForce GTX 860M chip, Entroware recommends Proteus for playing through your Linux Steam library," reads the official website.

The price mentioned above for the most basic setup includes an Intel Core i3 4100M 2.5GHz processor, 4GB of RAM, and a 500 GB HDD. These can be changed to better ones, but it will also up the price accordingly. Enjoy!
