Zopo’s flagship device will probably be quite affordable

There are many OEMs producing smartphones in China and some of them have gained a lot of notoriety, like Huawei or Xiaomi. Others, however, continue to lurk in the shadows, keeping a low profile and launching sporadic products.

Such is the case of Zopo, a Chinese handset maker which has been known to launch very affordable products. For example, their ZP80+ model offered a 5-inch 1080p display, octa-core processor clocked at 1.7GHz, and a 14MP f2.2 rear camera. The package was sold for $165 / €121.

Anyway, it seems that Zopo wants to enter the big boys’ league and is working towards a new smartphone of flagship caliber. The device surfaced online and the folks of Giz China caught a glimpse of it.

Zopo is preparing a monster

According to the leaked information, the Zopo premium phone will be a phablet with a spacious display of 6-inch variety. Like most flagships being launched in the world today, Zopo’s will also take advantage of QHD resolution (2560 x 1440 pixels).

The report mentions a deca-core chipset fueling the entrails of the device, which can only mean one thing: the phablet will probably take advantage of MediaTek’s Helio X20 chipset. Another high-end smartphone is expected to make a debut into the wild bundling the same SoC, and we’re talking about the HTC Aero or One M9.

Zopo is also throwing in a hefty 4GB of RAM and a 20MP main shooter. The smartphone also features a fingerprint scanner plus almost non-existent bezels following the design fashion of current smartphones.

HTC’s next-gen “hero” product is also whispered to arrive with a QHD display (some rumors say FHD), 4GB of RAM, and a rear camera with support for RAW photography. The device is rumored to cost around $500 / €443 to $600 / €532. By contrast, Zopo’s phone should be a lot cheaper.

What we currently don’t know is what operating system the Zopo phablet will be based on, but we assume it will be Android. In all possibility, Cyanogen OS could also be on the menu.

However, don’t expect the Zopo flagship to make it out any time soon, as the source mentions that the device will arrive on the market in the first quarter of 2016.
