Rhythmbox developer Jonathan Matthew announced the release of the Rhythmbox 3.4 open-source music player and organizer software for GNU/Linux operating systems, a version that introduces several enhancements and a bunch of bugfixes.

The biggest new features of Rhythmbox 3.4 are a new plugin that promises to let users remotely control the application via a web browser, a much-improved SoundCloud plugin that now fetches more search results and supports pausing, and the playback keyboard shortcuts were slightly improved.

It also looks like the Grilo plugin has been updated to use Grilo 0.3.0 or later, the WebKit web browser engine is now longer used in the application due to OpenBSD's W^X security feature, and various plugin data files and core components were compiled into binaries using the GResource API (Application Programming Interface).

A memory leak was plugged, the MP4 encoder settings can now be modified

Among the bug fixes that landed in the Rhythmbox 3.4 release, we can mention that a memory leak was plugged, it's now possible to change the settings of the MP4 encoder, DAAP (Digital Audio Access Protocol) support was improved when configuring music sharing, and entering and leaving the Party Mode no longer breaks the App Menu.

Additionally, the Party Mode status is now being correctly reported, a regression with the cover art was addressed, the right pkg-config binary is now being used, the TerraParser plugin now correctly fetches lyrics. Of course, numerous language translations have been updated and some other minor issues resolved.

The sources of Rhythmbox 3.4 are now available for download via our website, but we recommend that you update to this latest stable and most advanced version via the main software repositories of your GNU/Linux distribution. More details should be available in the raw changelog attached below.
