Kdenlive is a part of the KDE project, but it can also be used in other desktop environments. It's been around for some time and falls into a category of applications that are not all that common, especially not for free .
Multi-track video editors are usually really expensive on other platforms, but Kdenlive is open source and completely free. The developers have been working and maintaining the application for many years, and they have recently ported it for KF5.
Kdenlive 15.12 is impressive
The makers of Kdenlive are teasing us with the features that will land next week and they've put together a comprehensive announcement.
"We have been working hard over the past months to improve stability, polish the interface and continue our big code cleanup. Kdenlive 15.12.0 will be released next week," wrote the developers of Kdenlive.
According to the changelog, the Timeline effects and Bin effects can be temporarily disabled and re-enabled in 2 clicks, users can now enable and disable transparency for a given track, icons now automatically adapt their color scheme, and a number of workflow improvements have been made.
