14 DAY TRIAL // Alongside the powerful Mate 9, Huawei unveiled a premium smartphone manufactured in collaboration with Porsche. Now that BlackBerry is almost out of the smartphone business, Porsche has found another handset maker interested in launching premium phones, Huawei.
The newly announced Porsche Design Mate 9 comes with quite a few upgrades over the standard Mate 9 model. However, aside from its powerful specs and stylish look, the phone comes with a … premium price.
According to Huawei, the Porsche Design Mate 9 will sell for €1,395 outright. It will be available for purchase in the European Porsche Design Store just in time for the holiday season. The premium phone will also be launched in the Middle East and Asia, but sadly, it will not be available in the United States.
Unlike the Mate 9, which packs a huge 5.9-inch FHD (1080p) display, the Porsche Design edition sports a 5.5-inch AMOLED curved edge display that supports Quad HD (2560 x 1440 pixels) resolution.
Even though it's powered by the same HiSilicon Kirin 960 chipset, it comes with 6GB RAM and 256GB of storage, while the standard Mate 9 features just 4GB RAM and 64GB of internal memory.
But there's a catch, as the Porsche Design Mate 9 lacks microSD card slot. Still, 256GB storage should be more than enough for even the most hardcore users.
These are the most important differences between the two Mate 9 models, at least in terms of hardware. When it comes to design, though, they aren't similar in any way. It's also worth noting that the Porsche Design Mate 9 will only be available in Black color, whereas the Mate 9 is expected to arrive in six different colors.
The powerful spec list of the Porsche Design Mate 9 wouldn't be complete without an impressive Leica dual-camera setup (12MP + 20MP monochrome camera) and a huge non-removable 4,000 mAh battery.
